Dance Theatre Surreality on Tour
PERSEPHONE WINTER/SPRING
A 40-Minute Bilingual Dance/Poetry Duet for Museums & Cultural Spaces
Persephone Winter/Spring is a 40-minute duet created and performed by Lauren Hlubny and Kyra Hauck of Danse Theatre Surreality, featuring contemporary dance, boxing-inspired movement, and poetry in English and French.
We are seeking a gallery, museum, or cultural space to host the work free of cost during the weekend of July 11, at any time that works for the venue. Kyra will be in town that weekend to work with Molly Shanahan, making this a special opportunity to share the piece with a local audience.
Inspired by the myth of Persephone, the work moves through winter and spring, grief and renewal, descent and return. It is intimate, contained, and visually simple: two performers, one large piece of fabric, one pomegranate, and a protective drop cloth.
The piece has been performed outdoors and in galleries in Paris, including at Espace Canopy, where it was paired with an intergenerational poetry open mic. Audiences have described the work as “moving,” “exceptional,” “silent and powerful,” and “two beauties of nature in harmony.”
A Flexible Offering for Your Space
The performance can stand alone or be paired with a short poetry open mic, artist conversation, or exhibition-related program. A full-length video is available for review to assess fit and placement within your space.
